To HWS Faculty and Staff –
We are in week four of teleworking for all non-essential employees – but who’s counting? We all are counting! Counting the days until the curve is flattened, when students return to school, when we can head back to work on campus and ultimately, when things return to the familiar.
I appreciate everyone’s adaptability to work from home while continuing to support the HWS campus community. I am humbled by everyone’s willingness and commitment to keep each other healthy and safe by complying with social distancing guidance. It is important that each of us do our part to slow the spread of this virus, including wearing a face mask if you need to leave your home for any reason such as picking up supplies or mail from your office. Instructions are available on the CDC webpage on how to make a mask.
In the meantime, I recognize that working from home may be challenging for a variety of reasons, requiring that we approach our work differently. Although we are accustomed to face-to-face and personal interactions with students and with our colleagues, we have not been able to connect the way we prefer.
Starting this week, Human Resources will send weekly wellness tips to employees and will host a themed virtual social hour via Zoom so we can get through this together. The themed social hour is a great opportunity to connect with co-workers about how they’ve been spending their time, chat with friends and start the weekend. The first social hour begins this Friday April 17th at 4pm with the theme, Bring Your Pet to Work Day. I welcome suggestions for future themes which will be posted each week in The Buzz newsletter. Thank you for all that you do. Be well.
