Hobart College junior kicker Kyle Hackett was named a second team preseason All-American by D3football.com yesterday. He is the only Liberty League player among the 75 honorees.
A 2018 D3football.com All-America honorable mention selection, Hackett saw action in all nine games last year. He led the nation in field goal percentage for the second year in a row. Hackett was a perfect 9-for-9 on field goals, including a season-long of 41 yards. Hackett was also perfect on PATs, converting all 37 of his attempts to give him a team-leading 64 points. He also handled kickoffs for the Statesmen, averaging a league-best 56.3 yards and tying for the league lead in touchbacks. Hackett was also named to the American Football Coaches Association All-America second team.
Last year, Hackett eclipsed the Hobart game record for points by kicking with 13 (2 FGs, 7 PATs) in the win over Morrisville State. A week later, he tied the game record for PATs made with eight at Shenandoah. Against Union, Hackett tied the mark for most field goals made, with three. Hackett also owns the Hobart records for most consecutive PATs made (48 and counting) and most consecutive field goals made (19 and counting).
A two-time D3football.com All-East selection, Hackett has played in 19 career games. He is 19-for-19 on field goals and 80-82 on PATs. He is third on Hobart’s career PAT list and his 19 field goals made are tied the most in program history. Hackett is a two-time Liberty League Special Teams Player of the Year and two-time All-Liberty League first team selection.
Hobart was 5-4 last season and finished third in the Liberty League with a 3-2 record. The Statesmen return 44 letterwinners, including 16 starters from the 2018 squad. Hobart begins its 126th season Sept. 7, when it welcomes Brockport to Urick Stadium. The Golden Eagles are ranked 13th in D3football.com’s preseason poll.
