Herons and Statesmen LAX on the BOZ

_X1I3586This week, both the Herons and Statesmen lacrosse teams host games on the HWS home turf of Boswell Field. On Tuesday, the Herons defeated Ithaca 10-8, earning a fourth win over a nationally-ranked opponent this season. The Statesmen will host Syracuse University for the annual Kraus-Simmons Trophy game at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5.

With its sixth straight win, William Smith improves to 9-1 overall. Senior Allie Flaherty scored a game-high five goals and added three ground balls and two draws for William Smith. Junior Kelsi Carr notched three points on a goal and two assists. Junior Ali Burns logged two goals. Senior goalie Sarah Honan made seven saves in goal for William Smith and shared a game-high with five ground balls. She also shared a game-high with three caused turnovers.

William Smith will be back in action on Saturday, April 8, when it travels to Union for a Liberty League game at 2 p.m.

Since 1986, the Statesmen and Orange have played for the Kraus-Simmons Trophy, which honors National Lacrosse Hall of Fame coaches Babe Kraus of Hobart and Roy Simmons Sr. of Syracuse. Wednesday’s game will be the 32nd Trophy matchup, with the Statesmen prevailing in 1986, 2006, and 2013.Hobart Lacrosse vs Wagner 2325

Hobart brings a 4-5 record into the game. The Statesmen are averaging 11.89 goals per game which ranks 16th in the nation. Sophomore attackman Chris Aslanian leads the way with 15 assists and 28 points. First-year attackman Justin Scott adds a team-high 19 goals and two assists. At the X, sophomore Matthew Pedicine has won nearly 58 percent of his faceoffs this year. Senior goalie Jackson Brown has 92 saves, an 11.72 GAA and a .495 save percentage.

Hobart’s game is free for students, faculty and staff with ID; $5 for general admission, $2 for children 12 and under. General fan parking is available on campus in the Odell’s South, Barn, and Medbery lots, as well as at the Geneva Centre.
