Kicking off the 2019 season, the Hobart College lacrosse game against Canisius College will be played at Pinnacle Athletic Campus in Victor, N.Y., at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9. Originally scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at Boswell Field at David J Urick Stadium, the contest was moved inside with Saturday’s high temperature not expected to get out of the mid 20s.
General admission tickets are $7 for all fans and can be purchased at Pinnacle Athletic Campus on game day.
The game will be the 20th all-time meeting between the Statesmen and Golden Griffins. Hobart leads the series, which began in 1995, 18-1. The Statesmen have won each of the past eight showdowns with Canisius.
This will be the 118th season of Hobart lacrosse. The Statesmen are 64-48-4 in their previous 117 season openers. Hobart and Canisius have never faced off in the season opener.
The teams met last season in Buffalo with the Statesmen scoring a 19-9 victory. Attackmen Chris Aslanian and Justin Scott combined for 11 goals and four assists to lead the offense. Scott tied Hobart’s Division I record for goals in a game with six.
The contest will mark the second time the teams have played at Pinnacle. In 2017, midfielder Bryan Hancock’s four goals and two assists led the Statesmen to an 18-11 win over the Golden Griffins.
The 2019 Hobart lacrosse team returns 32 letter winners, including eight starters, from last year’s squad. Sixth-year Head Coach Greg Raymond welcomes back his top five goal scorers, one of the top faceoff men in the nation and two goalies with starting experience. To that veteran group, he’s added 18 newcomers that will bolster the team’s depth and talent.
