The Hobart College Statesmen are among the nation’s top tennis teams according to the final 2020-21 Oracle/ITA rankings released June 16. Hobart posted a 6-2 dual match record in a COVID-shortened spring season.
The Statesmen’s top doubles team of senior Walker Anderson and sophomore Jett Wright were also counted among the best in the country. They combined for a 7-1 record at No. 1 doubles this season, rattling off seven straight wins after dropping the season opener. Anderson and Wright are ranked 23rd in the nation and seventh in the Northeast Region.
In four seasons, Anderson posted a career singles record of 30-19 (.612) and went 35-18 (.660) in doubles play. He was a three-time All-Liberty League selection in both singles and doubles and earned ITA All-American recognition in doubles after winning the 2018 ITA Northeast Region Championship and finishing eighth at the 2018 ITA Cup.
For his career, Wright is 8-2 in singles (.800) and 8-4 (.667) in doubles. He was voted to the All-Liberty League doubles first team this season.
“I’m proud of what the team was able to accomplish this season,” says Head Coach Tim Riskie. “The players did a terrific job doing what they needed to do to make competition possible. We are all excited for next season.”
