Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children. HWS students will be admitted free with valid ID courtesy of the Statesmen Athletic Association.
The Statesmen are the No. 2 seed in the tournament and bring a 16-5-5 overall record into the semifinals. Hobart is ranked No. 9 in this week’s USCHO.com poll and No. 10 in the D3hockey.com poll. The Statesmen also moved up to No. 2 in the NCAA’s East Region rankings. Hobart downed No. 7 seed Southern Maine 8-0 in the quarterfinals in The Cooler last Saturday to extend its unbeaten streak to nine games.
Junior Jonas Toupal leads Hobart with 29 points on 14 goals and 15 assists. Sophomore Lawson MacDougall has logged a team-high 18 assists and added four goals for 22 points. Senior Frank Oplinger and sophomore Alexander Connal have split time in goal this year. Oplinger is sporting a 2.07 goals against average, a .915 save percentage and a 7-2-3 record. Connal has a 1.69 goals against average, a .929 save percentage and a 9-3-2 record.
The Beavers are the No. 3 seed and are 15-8-3 this season. Babson edged Skidmore 3-2 in double overtime last Saturday to earn a spot in the semifinals. The Beavers are unbeaten in their last six games. Matt McMorrow leads the team with 24 points on eight goals and 16 assists. Ryan Gouveia has scored a team-high 12 goals and added nine assists for 21 points. Matt Pompa has played the most minutes in goal. He’s sporting a 2.08 goals against average, a .928 save percentage and a 10-7-3 record.
Saturday’s game will be the fourth meeting between Hobart and Babson this season. The Beavers hold a 1-0-2 advantage in those games. On Nov. 18, the Statesmen and Beavers tied 3-3 in Babson Park, Mass. On Jan. 12, Babson earned a 4-3 victory in The Cooler and on Feb. 2, the teams once again played to a 3-3 tie, this time in Geneva.
