In celebration of the Hobart and William Smith community and another academic year, alums and families are set to return to campus in record numbers for Homecoming and Family Weekend, a festive tradition spanning from Friday, Sept. 28 through Sunday, Sept. 30.
The weekend’s festivities include Quad-a-Palooza, the annual extravaganza with dinner and live musical performances; the “State of the Colleges” address led by Interim President Patrick A. McGuire L.H.D. ’12; Fall Nationals, the box-car race known as one of HWS’ favorite traditions; and the much anticipated dedication of the David J Urick Stadium, which honors the legacy of the former Hobart lacrosse coach who led the Statesmen to 10 straight NCAA Division III Championships in the 1980s.
Returning alums and families are welcome to dive into the Colleges’ curriculum with Friday classes and Saturday’s mini college sessions that explore everything from life on Mars to the impact of study abroad. The weekend will also feature the Faculty Art Exhibit hosted by the Davis Gallery at Houghton House; the intervarsity debate tournament; Shabbat dinner at the Abbe Center for Jewish Life and more.
The weekend’s extensive athletic line-up also includes the appearance of Hobart tennis in the Northeastern Regional Championships at the HWS Tennis Center; William Smith soccer’s game against Bard; William Smith field hockey’s face-off with Union; and special gatherings for Hobart and William Smith rowing and Hobart and William Smith lacrosse, including the Hobart lacrosse alumni golf tournament.
