When it comes to successfully employed graduates, Hobart and William Smith Colleges are the top institution in New York and fifth in a national ranking, according to a recent study by the career search and employment services company Zippia.
In tallying the list, Zippia considered job placement ratings in each state and determined that with 95.447% of students in careers, Hobart and William Smith rank among the “best of the best” in setting students up for success after graduation.
Headquartered at the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education, the HWS programs for career planning engage students in a proven system to assess interests, values and skills; explore careers, resources and opportunities; experience firsthand the challenges and excitement of their field of interest; and connect with employers, graduate programs and the network of HWS support.
This system, the Pathways Program, is supplemented by the Colleges’ Guaranteed Internship Program, ensuring that students of good academic and social standing who successfully complete the Pathways Program will be able to participate in at least one internship or research opportunity during their four years.
Over the past two decades, the Colleges have broadened the scope of career preparation, establishing the Salisbury International Internship Award — a groundbreaking program that has supported more than 30 HWS students with up to $20,000 each to pursue an international internship or research opportunity anywhere in the world — as well as with innovative leadership programming, an entrepreneurial studies curriculum, an IdeaLab and business competitions to ensure students are prepared for the global, interdisciplinary nature of 21st century careers.
