The Hobart and William Smith Colleges sailing team won the Admiral Moore Team Race, placing first out of eight teams on the East River this past weekend. The Colleges finished the regatta with a perfect 17-0 record to claim the Admiral Moore Trophy.
This year, HWS, SUNY Maritime, Georgetown, Fordham, Pennsylvania, Roger Williams, Michigan, and Virginia competed for the Admiral Moore Team Race. Senior Greiner Hobbs, junior Charlie Miller and sophomores Kyle Easton and Hector Guzman served as skippers for The Colleges. Senior Haley Okun, junior Lindsey Kloc, and sophomore Maya Weber competed as crew.
The Regatta consisted of two round robins with all eight teams competing and a final four round robin. The first round robin, 28 races, was completed on Saturday. HWS finished with 7-0 record. The Colleges finished 1-2 in all seven of their races.
In the second round robin HWS continued to pull away from the field. The Colleges again finished the round robin with a 7-0 record, compiling a 14-0 record through 56 races On Sunday, HWS finished 1-2-3 in four of its seven races. The Colleges were joined by SUNY Maritime (10-4), Georgetown (9-5), and Fordham (7-7) in the final four round robin.
The Colleges opened the final four round robin with a win over the host Privateers. HWS then beat the Hoyas in race 59. The Colleges closed out the weekend with a win over the Rams in race 61. It was the only race of the weekend that HWS did not have two boats cross the line before an opponents’ boat.
Members of the HWS sailing team will be back in action on March 31 and April 1, when they travel to Cambridge, Mass., for the Marchiando Team Race hosted by MIT.
