This summer, Tamira Jackson-Lofton ’19 will launch her career in digital media through an internship with the Emmy-winning comedy entertainment company Funny Or Die. Jackson-Lofton secured the position after a three-day networking session in Los Angeles, Calif. coordinated by the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education.
Funny Or Die is a film and television production company founded by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Chris Henchy. The company has previously produced the popular series “Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis” as well as the hit TV shows “Billy on the Street” and “American Vandal.”
As an intern, Jackson-Lofton will work as a production assistant for multiple projects and read scripts for the Gary Sanchez production studio. Along with the other interns, Jackson-Lofton will also receive a budget from Funny or Die to create unique episodic content over the course of the summer.
The media and society major is excited for the opportunity to learn from and meet writers and other content producers. “The first week they will teach a class on how to read and analyze scripts,” she says, hoping the experience will give her insight into the entertainment industry and prepare her for future work at a studio or production company.
While in L.A. for the Behind the Scenes program, through the Salisbury Center, Jackson-Lofton and participating students had the opportunity to network with producers, senior-level executives and actors who have created some of entertainment’s most iconic TV shows, characters and media campaigns. Jackson-Lofton connected with talent producer at Funny Or Die Luke Esselen ’11.
This semester, she is studying abroad in Rome, Italy. On campus, Jackson-Lofton is a student photographer in the Office of Marketing and Communications.
