President Joyce P. Jacobsen shares her advice for new and mid-career academics in the latest issue of the quarterly newsletter from the American Economic Association’s standing Committee on the Status of Women in the Economics Profession.
In “Tips for Surviving and Thriving as an Academic Economist,” Jacobsen and five additional economists from other leading academic institutions share tips on refereeing journal submissions, teaching, departmental service, time management and work-life balance.
An expert on labor economics, particularly the economics of gender, Jacobsen became the 29th president of Hobart College and the 18th of William Smith College in 2019. She earned her Ph.D. from Stanford University and M.Sc. from the London School of Economics, and graduated from Harvard University, magna cum laude, with her A.B. in economics as a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
