Chef in the Kappa Alpha kitchen Lisa Barrett was recently featured on the cover of Thrive magazine, a biannual publication by Finger Lakes Health. The article, titled “When those who give need help: Lisa Barrett stands tall and is living life on her terms” tells Barrett’s story of recovery after experiencing chronic back pain.
In 2019, Barrett underwent spinal surgery at Geneva General Hospital. The operation was performed by Dr. Chibuikem Akamnonu of Interlakes Orthopaedic Surgery. Following her surgery, Barrett has been able to move confidently and without pain.
“Not only did the orthopaedic care she received at Finger Lakes Health get her moving again, it made the Kappa Alpha kitchen at Hobart College – her sanctuary – home once again for the ‘chef and mom,’ as the young Statesmen call her,” the article shares.
When fraternity member Ryan Righi ’21 saw the article, he reaffirmed the special relationship KA members have with Barrett.
“Lisa has truly become a second mother to me over the years. She is the kindest person you will ever meet… She is someone you can always rely on, and I can speak for everyone in saying that we are very grateful to have her.”
