Sophie Lapat ’22 is a marketing intern for Definitive Healthcare, a leading provider of data and intelligence on hospitals, physicians and other healthcare providers.
After being introduced to the job search site Handshake by Director of the Salisbury Center for Career and Experiential Education Brandi Ferrara, Lapat applied to the Definitive Healthcare’s internship program.
A media and society major and entrepreneurial studies minor, Lapat says her internship experience provided insight into the daily tasks and responsibilities of a marketing team. Due to COVID-19, Lapat has interned remotely using platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
In her role, Lapat generates content for the company’s newsletter. She also monitors Definitive Healthcare’s blogs, identifying and tagging articles to be listed across the company’s website. Articles range in topics such as pharmaceuticals and biotech, medical devices, technology and staffing.
Definitive Healthcare’s internship program also emphasizes professional development opportunities, which allow Lapat to attend company strategy meetings. She also earned an Inbound Marketing Certification on HubSpot, where she has “learned the basics of and gained fundamental training in marketing, and received certification in a prevalent marketing technology platform.”
Lapat says she felt prepared to write critically and analytically in her role thanks to her coursework at the Colleges. Her Quantitative Tools coursework in the Entrepreneurial Studies Department also allowed Lapat to become proficient in Excel, which has served as a “leveraged tool throughout the majority of the internship,” she says.
