Mahoney ’91 and Phillies Donate Ponchos to Hospital Staff

A case of 200 ponchos was donated by the Philadelphia Phillies to the staff at Holy Redeemer Hospital in Meadowbrook, Pa., with the help of Brian Mahoney ’91.

Director of Advertising and Sales for the Phillies, Mahoney was contacted by a former neighbor, Dr. Alan Reinach (shown above), to see if the Major League Baseball team had any promotional or retail ponchos available. Reinach, who specializes in pulmonary and critical care medicine, wanted to have the ponchos on hand in case the hospital staff needs them as they continue to treat patients with COVID-19.

“Pretty amazing people are doing some pretty amazing things in our hospitals every day,” says Mahoney. “Dr. Reinach is on the front lines seeing COVID-19 patients daily.”

Mahoney made a few phone calls and sent a few texts. Later that day he had a box of 200 ponchos in the back of his car. Mahoney and his wife Alicia delivered the ponchos to Holy Redeemer — along with some other Phillies merchandise — on Saturday. Reinach was there to receive the donation.

“He and I agreed that hopefully the staff at Holy Redeemer doesn’t need to use the ponchos during the pandemic and can wear them at an upcoming Phillies game instead,” says Mahoney.

An English major and member of the Hobart soccer and baseball teams, Mahoney has been with the Phillies since 2002.
