This summer, Zara Pyle ’23 balanced two remote social media internships at companies run by Hobart and William Smith alums.
Zara Pyle ’23 worked as a social media manager intern for Leaders of the 21st Century (LOT21C), a nonprofit founded by Dan DeNose ’10. LOT21C works with high school students in their junior and senior years to improve college and career readiness skills during a two-year fellowship program. She also interned with Cedarcroft Advisors, a financial consulting company run by David Lunken ’88. Cedarcroft Advisors focuses on helping organizations identify and meet their goals and build successful teams.
“Through LOT21C’s Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn pages, I developed and posted content that reflects their mission and promotes their programs; the graduates are proof that it works,” she says. “At Cedarcroft Advisors, I worked on different aspects of their website and discussed plans for how they can market their services, including team building and office management, on social media such as LinkedIn. “
During her search for a summer internship, Pyle was looking for remote work that would align with her studies in the Media & Society Department and her previous experience working in marketing and social media management. “I was thrilled to discover these opportunities to work alongside Hobart alums for the summer, learning what they do and how their time at Hobart influenced their careers,” says Pyle, a double major in Theatre and Media & Society.
To find these opportunities, Pyle worked with Brandi Ferarra, the Director of the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional, and Experiential Education, and Briana Costello ’15, the Center’s Associate Director of Employer Development.
She also received a stipend for the summer through the Salisbury Center’s Pathways Program. The Pathways Program consists of several workshops designed to assist students in developing valuable career development skills, such as networking. Once students complete the program, they are guaranteed at least one internship or research opportunity and can apply for a stipend if their opportunity is unpaid.
On campus, Pyle is a Writing Colleague and serves as social media manager of Perfect Third acapella. She will be going abroad to Bali, Indonesia in December through a Hobart and William Smith program led by Associate Professor of Theatre Christopher Hatch.
