Jada Eisenbud ’23 lands an internship with U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and another as a human rights law researcher with the Brussels School of Government.
While studying abroad in Brussels, Belgium at the Brussels School of Governance (BSoG) last spring, Jada Eisenbud ’23 was excited to accept another internship for the summer with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. A position secured through assistance from Eden Tesfaye ’14.
Eisenbud says she met Tesfaye, who serves as special assistant to the Director of Intergovernmental and External Affairs at HHS, during last year’s Day on the Hill experience sponsored by the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education. Even though the two-day experience was remote, she was able to connect with Tesfaye and other alums in politics and “get a taste of working in different branches of government.”
As a political science major and women’s studies minor, Eisenbud was grateful that she connected with Tesfaye. “It was a massive opportunity to see a different side of public work. Eden has really strong roots in politics, especially the policy areas I am interested in.”
While studying abroad in Brussels, Eisenbud says her internship as a human rights law researcher at the Brussels School of Government helped prepare her for the position as well. The internship’s research work focused on discrimination of European Union politics, work she says helped her to better understand the differences between American and European politics and unlock her potential in politics by being more open-minded to foreign policies.
While completing the internship and living in D.C. this summer, Eisenbud says she went on to expand her breadth of knowledge by conducting mental health and women’s health research with the HHS.
“This internship (at the HHS) served as a learning opportunity that helped build my knowledge of the government. It is valuable to learn every step of the process in our political system because that is one of the ways to create change in an intricate and delicate system,” says Eisenbud. “I want to run for public office one day.”
