10 November 2023 HWS Wins CASE Awards
For excellence in videography and design, Hobart and William Smith won Best CASE District II Awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.
Hobart and William Smith won two awards from the Council of Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). The awards recognize HWS for communications and marketing materials in the video and design categories.
The annual CASE Accolades program celebrates institutional accomplishments and higher education professionals for their work across areas ranging from fundraising, alumni relations and student recruitment to marketing and communications.
In the “Videos: Promotional (Short)” category, HWS won for The Rev. Dr. Alger L. Adams ’32 video, which was created for the H200 Bicentennial Gala and premiered on Oct. 22, 2022. The video was shown just before Chair of the Board of Trustees Craig Stine ’81, P’17 announced that the Colleges’ renovated and expanded intercultural building would be named the Adams Intercultural Center. Stine made the lead gift to the project. He was joined on stage by Adams’ daughter Patricia Adams L.H.D. ’22 during the announcement.
The video was produced by Director of Multimedia Productions Brett Williams and recorded by Photographer and Videographer Adam Farid '20. The video features Patricia Adams, who shared archival photographs, newspaper clippings, Adams’ original paintings and stories about her father.
In the “Specialty Pieces: Design” category, HWS received recognition for our Class of 2027 welcome packet redesign. The goal of the redesign was to capture and convey the HWS community’s pride. The acceptance packet for the Class of 2027 included a soccer scarf as well as a custom folder encasing the student’s acceptance letter. Both items were packed inside a box imprinted with the Hobart and William Smith licensed tartan pattern (created using our founding years and the geographic coordinates of campus) and topped with a class-year specific welcome sticker.
Senior Graphic Designer Sandra Devaux weaved together the HWS, Herons and Statesmen brands to design the scarf and sticker, utilizing SportScarf, LLC and Ansun Graphics for production of the items. The boxes were procured from Timeless Tartans and the tartan pattern was produced using their proprietary algorithm. North Charles Street Design Organization designed the custom folder.
The scarves were featured in @hwscolleges social media posts here and here.
