26 April 2023 • Alums Scholarship Day of Donors Launches May 2
The HWS community is invited to participate in a new fundraising challenge on Tuesday, May 2 and Wednesday, May 3 (noon to noon). By making a gift on Scholarship Day of Donors, alums, parents, families and students will support new scholarships that will be awarded in Fall 2023, making an immediate impact on student access and success.
“The day is modeled after Athletic Day of Donors, which has really snowballed into a wonderful display of community support and giving,” says Dulcie Meyer P’20, Director of Annual and Athletic Giving. “We wanted to expand the fun and excitement that challenge giving creates and funnel that energy toward scholarships.”
John Manley ’64, P’93 has generously sponsored a dollar-for-dollar match grant for the first $50,000 given to the campaign, doubling the impact of donors’ gifts.
Each $25,000 raised will create a Scholarship Day of Donors Annual Fund Scholarship that will go to work in the next academic year helping students.
Donors can create their own named Annual Fund Scholarship by committing $5,000 annually for five years.
May 2 is also National Teacher Appreciation Day. To honor HWS faculty, a gratitude station will be set up in Scandling Campus Center. Throughout the 24-hour challenge, students are invited to write a note to a faculty member who has made a significant impact on their education at Hobart and William Smith.
On the official Scholarship Day of Donors giving page, donors will also be able to share tributes to HWS faculty.

The Office of Advancement will be tabling in the Scandling Campus Center on May 2 and May 3 and will sponsor a food truck on both days.
“Another goal of Scholarship Day of Donors is philanthropy education. We especially want to communicate to current students how important stewardship is in supporting our vibrant community,” Meyer says.
Leading up to the Scandling Campus Center on May 2 and May 3, signposts will be placed on the lawn celebrating endowed scholarships that have been made possible by the generosity of HWS alums.
“Behind every endowed named scholarship is an alum whose generous giving and willingness to reach back and support future generations of HWS students has made opportunities possible,” she says.
