Therapist Jenna Berman ’08 distills insights from cognitive behavioral therapy for young people to manage powerful emotions and stress.
In 2021, Jenna Berman ’08 published The Self-Regulation Workbook for Kids, a book to help children and adolescents identify, understand and take control of their feelings using cognitive behavioral therapy and self-regulation exercises.
This summer, Berman released a companion set of flashcards, The Self-Regulation Deck for Kids, which includes 50 exercises and coping strategies around anxiety, stress and other strong emotions.
The workbook and flashcards, published by Ulysses Press, provide young readers with an evidence-based guide to explore and express their feelings.
With interactive worksheets and proven exercises, the workbook offering concrete coping skills and techniques as readers follow a character who models ways to manage a variety of thoughts and emotions. The book aims to help readers get along with peers and family members, complete their daily activities, and find academic success.
In the same vein, the flashcards help readers learn about their emotions and how to better feel, deal with, and express them.

Berman is a therapist with offices in Brooklyn, N.Y., and Montclair, N.J. She earned her bachelor’s in psychology from Hobart and William Smith and master’s in social work from Columbia University. She completed post-graduate training at the Ackerman Institute for the Family and New York University. Berman has a range of experience working in outpatient mental health as well as in school, residential, and medical settings. She is passionate about helping children and adolescents feel empowered to overcome obstacles and reach their potential.
