A media and society major and entrepreneurial studies minor, Laurens Van Alen ’24 will join AlphaSights in its New York City office following graduation. At the information services company, Van Alen will serve as a Client Services Associate connecting clients with experts in a wide range of industries. Headquartered in London, AlphaSights’ clients are linked with experts in a range of markets such as technology, telecommunications, financial services and healthcare.

While working closely with the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education, Van Alen connected with Samuel Denney '20, a manager on the strategy consulting segment at AlphaSights.

“I believe that the opportunity to network in so many different industries and work with leaders in their respective fields will be very fulfilling for me,” says Van Alen, a William Smith field hockey defender. “HWS has helped me prepare for life post-grad by giving me the tools to think critically about situations, be a problem solver and be an impactful leader.”

Van Alen says she also gained valuable experience through prior internships with Club & Court sporting attire store as a Consumer and Marketing Analytics Intern, and at Philadelphia Union soccer club and Philadelphia Union Academy in the scouting department.

In addition to her academic and athletic pursuits at HWS, Van Alen is a member of the William Smith Laurel Society, the HWS Diversity, Equity and Inclusion task force for student-athletes, an athletic study mentor with the Center for Teaching and Learning and a Media & Society Student Ambassador and Teaching Assistant.

In 2023, she spent the spring semester studying abroad at the National University of Ireland, Galway. She additionally works for the Office of Athletic Communications and with the Strength and Conditioning Department. As a defender for the Heron field hockey team, Van Alen has appeared multiple times on the NFHCA National Academic Squad and been named Liberty All-Academic for three seasons.
