Campus Photos 9_28_20 KColton, It was me (Amy Green, WRRH) and Caroline Bryceland (WS '21) whose pictures you took behind Smith Hall today. We were discussing citizenship rights and practices for a paper in my course, WRRH 364: Suffrage and Citizenship in American Discourse. The course starts with pre-Revolutionary America and looks at how citizenship and voting rights get defined in public discourses over time, all the way up to our current day. Right now, we're in the Civil War era. Most people know that 2020 is the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment (which stated voting rights should not be abridged based on sex) but not that it is also the 150th anniversary of the passing of the 15th Amendment in 1870 (which stated voting rights should not be abridged based on race, color, or previous condition of servitude). We see a lot of parallels with what is happening in our world today to what was happening back then, so it's been a really wonderful time to be teaching this class!! Caroline is also a Writing Colleague and is a WRRH major and Entrepreneurial Studies minor.
