The Colleges’ Department of Music will close 2016 with a flourish, offering eight concerts during the holiday season.
The Improvisation Ensemble, directed by Bob Barbuto ’94, will perform on Friday, Dec. 2, at 9 p.m. in Froelich Hall of the Gearan Center for the Performing Arts. The Improvisation Ensemble performs musical rhetorics that include improvisational elements such as jazz, rock-n-roll, ambient, folk, funk, and open-music.
Under the direction of Professor of Music Bob Cowles, the Colleges Chorale and Cantori will perform at the annual Madrigal Dinner concert on Friday, Dec. 3, at 6 p.m. in the Vandervort Room of the Scandling Campus Center. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Geneva.
The Jazz Ensemble, directed by Assistant Professor of Music Mark Olivieri, will perform on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 9 p.m. in Froelich Hall. A student group, the Jazz Ensemble provides opportunities for talented jazz performers and accommodates a variety of instrumental combinations.
The Percussion and Jazz Guitar Ensembles will perform on Monday, Dec. 5, at 8 p.m. in Froelich Hall. Anthony Calabrese and Greg Wachala will direct the performance, which will feature percussive and jazz-guitar pieces.
Under the direction of Peter Rovit, the String Ensemble, a group of student chamber artists, will perform on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 8 p.m. in Froelich Hall.
On Wednesday, Dec. 7, Oliveri’s Composition Class Concert will be held at 8 p.m. in Froelich Hall. The concert will feature works composed by students in Oliveri’s musical composition course.
The Community Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Kevin Holzman, will perform on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 8 p.m. in the Vandervort Room. The collective includes HWS students, faculty, and staff.
The Classical Guitar Ensemble, directed by Ben Ellis, will perform on Friday, Dec. 9, at 8 p.m. in Froelich Hall. The performance will feature arrangements of classical works for guitar.
