"This is Not Our War"

Former US Ambassador to Austria and the current director of the Women and Public Policy Program (WAPP) at Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government Swanee Hunt will be on campus for the Presidents Forum Series on February 16, 2006. Hunt’s visit should be of interest not only to Public Policy and Women’s Studies students but to the rest of the student body as well.

As Ambassador Hunt launched the Vienna Women’s Initiative and worked with the displaced women who were victims of the war in Bosnia. Following the war she organized The Sarajevo Office of Hunt Alternatives as a part of a relief campaign. The office continues to support women in war-torn communities. She is also the author of "This Was Not Our War: Bosnian Women Reclaiming the Peace," which will also be the title of her talk.

Hunt was one of the Co-Founders of the WAPP program at Harvard and has served as the director of the program since 1997. The program was set up to integrate the understanding of gender perspectives on public policy students.

Hunt has had articles published in the Chicago Tribune, Boston Globe, Denver Post, and International Herald Tribune. She has received honors from the Anti-Defamation League, the American Mental Health Association, the National Women’s Forum, and the Institute for International Education.
