The level of Community Transmission in Ontario County is currently HIGH. Hobart and William Smith Colleges require all faculty, staff, students and visitors to wear masks in indoor public spaces, regardless of vaccination status.
The fields in this dashboard mimic many of those included on the Ontario County Public Health website. Note that the data we are showing on this dashboard and the data on Ontario County’s website may differ slightly because of when and how the Colleges and Ontario County receive test results.
“Confirmed Positive Cases” refers to the total number of positive cases returned through the Colleges’ testing program since Aug. 9, 2021. Also included are confirmed positive test results of students, faculty or staff who were tested by a provider outside the Colleges’ testing program starting Aug. 9, 2021. Note that “Confirmed Positive Cases” includes “Recovered” and “New Cases Today.”
“New Cases Today” are the number of newly identified positive cases on the date of the last update to the dashboard.
“Negative Tests” are the number of tests administered by the Colleges since Aug. 9, 2021 that were returned negative. Rapid anti-gen and PCR tests are reported on the following day’s dashboard (i.e. a test on Monday will be reported on Tuesday’s dashboard). A traditional PCR test is reported the day after the test result is known (i.e., the results of a test administered on Monday will be known on Tuesday, and will therefore be reported on Wednesday’s dashboard).
“Quarantines and Isolations” refers to the number of students separated from the overall community as a result of exposure to or infection from COVID-19. A quarantine separates and restricts the movement of unvaccinated people who may have been exposed to COVID-19 in case they become sick. Isolation separates people who have tested positive for COVID-19 from people who are not sick.
“Recovered” refers to the number of people who at one time tested positive and who, after a minimum of a 10-day period, have no symptoms of COVID-19. Those who are recovered can return to normal activities.
The Colleges’ New York State COVID-19 Dashboard, which includes historic data, trends and quarantine capacity, can be found here. Please note that as of May 2021, New York State is no longer requiring colleges and universities to submit COVID-19 information.
