Dear Members of the Hobart and William Smith Community,

We are very pleased to report that both routine and symptomatic testing on campus has yielded zero positive cases of COVID-19 this week. This is the result of diligence on the part of all members of our community. As we hit the midway mark in the semester, we are optimistic that with continued persistence in following our COVID guidelines – including wearing masks indoors and whenever it is not possible to maintain a three-foot distance – we will continue to have a successful semester.

Given the current low prevalence on campus and because all recent previous positive cases came from symptomatic testing, we will scale back routine testing for vaccinated people at this time. Athletes will continue to be tested as necessary to ensure compliance with league regulations. Students who are unvaccinated will continue to be tested each week, as will a purposeful sample of vaccinated students who will be notified on Mondays to participate in batch testing. In addition, asymptomatic students, faculty and staff who have come in direct contact with someone who has COVID-19, whether on campus or elsewhere, can continue to walk into the testing center. If you are a student experiencing symptoms, please contact the Hubbs Health Center; symptomatic faculty and staff should contact their medical provider.

We thank you for your continued attentiveness. As always, please reach out any time if you have questions.

Sincerely,

Sarah Kirk
Provost and Dean of Faculty
