November 15, 2021

Good afternoon,

Congratulations to our exceptional athletes and coaches who performed with immense skill this weekend. Win or lose, it was extraordinary to see the athleticism and sportsmanship of our students. Special congratulations go out to the William Smith Soccer Team and Head Coach Aliceann Wilber who, after beating Hamilton College 2-1 yesterday, advance to the third round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship for the sixth straight time.

Congratulations are also in order for the more than 90 students who participated in the Kinetic Dance Concert this weekend at the Smith Opera House. Formerly known as Koshare Dance Collective and the oldest continuous club at Hobart and William Smith, the students of Kinetic proved yet again that dance has the power to unite and inspire all of us. It was a wonderful series of performances.

As we look forward to November break and prepare for finals, a reminder that the rate of transmission of COVID-19 in Ontario County remains high. We continue to require everyone to wear face masks indoors and whenever it is not possible to stay three feet apart, and anticipate that this requirement will be in place at least for the remainder of the semester.

For those students preparing to travel outside of Geneva for break and who would like to be tested prior to leaving, walk-in testing is available Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The testing center at Hubbs will close on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. and re-open on Tuesday, Nov. 30. Because the incubation period between the November break and Winter break is too short, we will not test students on reentry to campus after Thanksgiving.

As always, we encourage you to check the HWS calendar often to make sure you are aware of the many events happening on campus each week, and read the Update webpage that includes stories on the accomplishments and accolades of members of our campus community.

Sincerely,

Sarah Kirk
