COVID-19 Updates

Good morning,
After what we hope was a restful break, we welcome everyone back to campus as we begin the final week of classes.
Ontario County’s COVID-19 positivity rate remains high, with nearly 11% of county residents testing positive. Vaccination and mask wearing indoors remain the best defense; physical distancing when possible is also important. Beginning today through the last day of finals, we ask our community to limit non-academic in-person meetings such as staff meetings, club meetings or other gatherings. As many members of our community did travel over the break, limiting in-person meetings to essential or academic needs will help reduce the possibility of transmission. If you have questions about a meeting or gathering you already had planned, please contact either of us.
As of this morning, there are 5 members of the HWS community – faculty, staff or students – who have tested positive and who are in isolation. We are working with each individual to ensure they have the tools and resources necessary to teach and learn for the remainder of the term. The testing center at Hubbs will reopen tomorrow, Nov. 30, at 10:00 a.m., when we will continue our weekly testing of students who are not vaccinated as well as students who may have been exposed to COVID-19. If you are a student and symptomatic, you should call the Hubbs Health Center for an appointment. The center is open 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
To support students’ success, in the run up to finals, which begin on Dec. 7, we remind you that Sunday through Thursday, the following academic buildings will be open until midnight:
· Delancey House
· Seneca Room
· Demarest Hall
· Trinity Hall
· Merritt Hall
· Science Building Complex (Lansing, Eaton, Rosenberg, Napier)
· Gulick Hall
· Smith Hall
· Stern Hall
· Emerson Hall Classrooms
· 1st floor Library (until 1 a.m.)
As we enter into Reading Days and Exams, beginning on Friday, Dec. 3 and continuing through 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11, the first floor of the Library, the Baron Computer Lab in the Melly Library Atrium, Stern Hall, Gulick Hall, and Rosenberg Hall will remain open 24 hours.
Do not forget to attend StudyHub Live, sponsored by the Center for Teaching and Learning, where you can get academic support for your assignments or just general company and encouragement. The event is happening in Bartlett Theatre in Coxe Hall on Wednesday, Dec. 1 from 4 p.m. – midnight.
