April 25, 2022

Good Morning,

As usually happens at this time of the semester, the upcoming week is full of events, including but not limited to: the Student Leader Recognition Awards ceremony, Statesmen and Heron Awards banquets, the Community Chorus concerts, a Fisher Center lecture, the Faculty Dance concert, readings by Associate Professor of English Kathryn Cowles and Professor of English Melanie Conroy-Goldman, William Smith’s Moving Up Day, the LASO El Dorado Extravaganza and multiple athletic contests.  Phew!

We invite everyone to attend a very special event on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Vandervort Room as we welcome Pulitzer Prize-Winning New York Times Opinion Columnist Bret Stephens and Emmy Award-winning 60 Minutes Correspondent and HWS Trustee Bill Whitaker ’73, L.H.D. ’97, to discuss the future of conservatism. This is the inaugural Stern Family Forum, created to spur dialogue on tough and sometimes controversial issues. The forum is generously funded by Honorary Trustee Herbert J. Stern ’58, P’03, LL.D. ’74, who will provide introductory remarks, and Trustee Samuel A. Stern ’03.

Although our COVID-19 numbers remain low, with only two students currently in isolation, the numbers in the county are up, so we urge everyone as they participate in in-person events to please show appropriate caution. Although masks are not required on campus if you are vaccinated, you may consider wearing one at indoor gatherings where significant numbers of attendees are present.

All the best,

Sarah Kirk
Provost and Dean of Faculty
