February 10, 2022

Good Afternoon,

On Wednesday, February 9, Governor Kathy Hochul dropped New York’s indoor mask mandate. This timing coincides with our own decision to reevaluate our policies three weeks into the spring semester. We are happy to report that successful re-entry testing and low symptomatic case counts make it possible for us to ease up on restrictions.

As of tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 11, masking will not be required in residence halls or dining facilities. Starting Monday, Feb. 14, masking will not be required for all indoor spaces across campus.

However, regardless of vaccination status, masks will continue to be required in the following situations:

  • If a faculty or staff member asks their students or colleagues to wear masks within their classrooms or offices. Faculty should please let their students know the classroom plan on or before Monday, Feb. 14.
  • Inside health care facilities, such as the Hubbs Health Center and Counseling Center.
  • When riding the Shuttle.
  • When attending an indoor athletic contest.

All members of the community should therefore carry a mask with them at all times. As always, anyone is free to choose to continue to use a mask or other facial covering as they deem necessary. A limited number of KN95 masks, which provide optimum protection, are available in Campus Safety.

As in the fall, those who are not fully vaccinated are required to be masked at all times while indoors in public spaces, and individuals exiting quarantine and isolation may also be required to wear masks for a period of time.

We appreciate the community’s dedication to keeping one another healthy. We will continue to monitor the situation both on and off campus and will adjust as needed going forward.

Sincerely,
