Beginning this month, the upper level of the Barn on St. Clair Street will undergo renovations to accommodate the new facilities of the Outdoor Recreation Adventure Program (ORAP). The redesigned space will offer “a new and improved full height rock climbing wall” with bouldering features, as well as “an inclusive space for students to gather and just hang out,” says Judy Wentzel, ORAP adviser and Assistant Director of Recreation, Intramurals and Fitness.
The HWS community can continue to rent outdoor equipment from ORAP, which funds and schedules outdoor excursions and activities, including weekend and day trips. Due to the renovation and relocation, however, ORAP hours of operation, including equipment rental times, have yet to be determined.
During the construction phase, questions about upcoming trips or equipment rental may be directed to the program’s student officers at ORAP@hws.edu. Updates regarding the new space and upcoming trips can be found on ORAP’s Collegiate Link page and Facebook page.
The ORAP relocation, which is anticipated to be complete by the end of February, will free up space in the north end of Bristol Field House, which is designated for an expansion of the fitness center. That project is planned for the summer of 2017.
Meanwhile, the HWS community can learn more about the new and exciting happenings with ORAP at the spring Involvement Expo on Friday, Jan 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Vandervort Room in Scandling Campus Center.
