Pianist Nicola (Nikki) Melville, a professor of music at Carlton College and co-director of the Chautauqua Summer Festival Piano Program, will perform at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7 in Froelich Hall at the Gearan Center for Performing Arts.
Enjoying a multi-faceted performing career, Melville is a recitalist, concerto soloist, chamber musician and an avid promoter of New Music. She attended the Victoria School of Music in Wellington, New Zealand. There she studied with Judith Clark, an internationally renowned pianist, and received her B.M. She later earned her master’s and doctorate degrees from the Eastman School of Music.
Melville has recorded for Innova Recordings and Equilibrium Recordings, and is a member of the faculty ensemble Veblen Trio at Carlton College.
Participating in projects with dancers, filmmakers and visual artists, Melville has performed at venues including the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and Carnegie Hall in New York, N.Y. Her live performances and recordings have aired in Canada, U.S., New Zealand, South Africa and China.
