For the past year, Christina Sieben ’20 has served remotely as the social media marketing and graphic design intern with GLP Films based in Kennebunk, Maine. The company, founded by Hobart alum Rob Holmes ’92, has offered Sieben a position after graduation once business has resumed following Covid-19.
A media and society major with a double minor in studio art and mathematics, Sieben runs many of GLP’s social media channels, does some of the company’s graphic design for it’s social media channels, and pitches strategies that showcase her understanding of marketing and the company.
“I am really interested in the theory behind the media, and how it shapes people’s ideas and the way they react to things,” says Sieben, who finds herself regularly calling on topics from Assistant Professor of Media and Society Rebecca Burditt’s “Media and Theory” class.
A native of Piedmont, Calif., Sieben also participated in the Behind the Scenes career trip to Los Angeles in January and enjoyed meeting the community of alums in the area. “It is pretty comforting knowing that Hobart and William Smith has so many connections on the West Coast,” she says.
To students applying to HWS, Sieben has advice from her four years in Geneva: “Leave your comfort zone earlier; it’ll help you grow and force you to recognize what you want out of your studies and give you more time to take advantage of resources.”
Sieben is the recipient of the Dan Kortick ’89 Annual Fund Internship Award.
