The Hobart and William Smith ice hockey teams are both in action on Saturday, Feb. 17. The Statesmen open the New England Hockey Conference Tournament at 7 p.m. in The Cooler. The Statesmen are the No. 2 seed and host No. 7 Southern Maine for a quarterfinal game.
Hobart and Southern Maine met twice this season. On Nov. 3, 2017, the Statesmen earned an 8-1 victory in Gorham, Maine, and on Jan. 27, 2018, Hobart blanked the Huskies 4-0 in Geneva. Southern Maine closed out the regular season with a 3-18-4 overall record and a 3-12-3 mark in the NEHC.
On the road, the Herons will finish their regular season at 2 p.m. against SUNY Cortland in Cortland, N.Y. This is William Smith’s last regular season game. The Herons earned a bye to the UCHC Tournament semifinals as the league’s No. 2 seed. The semifinals will be played on March 3.
William Smith and SUNY Cortland will meet for a second time this season on Saturday. On Dec. 8, 2017, the Herons locked in a 6-2 victory here in Geneva. The Red Dragons bring an 8-14-2 overall record to Geneva.
Tickets for the Hobart vs. Southern Maine game are $5 for adults and $3 for children. HWS students will be admitted free with valid ID courtesy of the Statesmen Athletic Association.
