Stewardson Society Hosts Ugly Sweater Party

As the first big event of the gift giving season, the Stewardson Society will host an Ugly Sweater Party for the senior class on Friday, Dec. 9 at Beef & Brew Restaurant starting at 10 p.m.

Named for The Reverend Langdon C. Stewardson, the first president of the combined Hobart and William Smith Colleges, the society organizes members of the senior classes to present HWS with a gift in honor of their graduation. Senior chairs Audrey Haener ’17, Sydney Gomez ’17 and Joseph Vertoske ’17 say they are excited to carry on the tradition that began in the 1980s.

“Giving to Stewardson is about showing appreciation for the great four years that we’ve had at HWS. It allows present and future students to have the same great opportunities that we’ve been lucky enough to have,” Vertoske says.

The event will feature a contest for the ugliest sweater, as well as a DJ, plenty of snacks, and free drink tickets to the first 100 people to arrive. The party is only open to seniors who have donated $20.17 or more as their senior gift to become Stewardson members.

Seniors can make their gift online at or visit committee members while they are tabling in Scandling Campus Center from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 5- Dec. 9. Seniors can also offer their donation at the door. For questions, please email
