Ashley Rodger Tapscott ’07, MAT ’08, and her husband Joe Tapscott, celebrated the first anniversary of their Geneva-based Crossfit-style gym, Wine Country Fitness LLC, on March 1. In addition to managing and leading classes at WCF, Ashley is in her eighth year as an English teacher at Penn Yan Academy.
The Tapscotts say the inspiration for the fitness club came from their desire to raise their children, ages two months, four and six, “in an environment that inspires hard work, camaraderie and positive relationships…all of which have been fostered by the family of athletes at Wine Country Fitness.”
The family aspect has been “integral” to their success over the past year, they say. Ashley explains that WCF “is truly a joint effort,” as both she and Joe train and teach at the gym and support their family at home. Joe is also an electrician at Garlock Sealing Technologies in Palmyra, N.Y.
Located at 590 Pre Emption Rd., the 30-member fitness community is made up of several HWS professors, professional staff and students, along with community members. The training focuses on Olympic lifting, functional movements, metabolic conditioning, and gymnastic movements while emphasizing the importance of family, community and fitness.
During her time at HWS, Ashley majored in English, studied abroad in Bath, England, and worked at Bristol Field House. “The very same sense of community I had at HWS is the lynch pin of Wine Country Fitness, LLC: athletes are supported in their endeavor for fitness and overall health in an environment that inspires hard work, camaraderie and positive relationships,” she says.
