HWS Tennis Weekend

The Hobart and William Smith tennis teams are back in action this weekend on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22. Both at home, the Herons will take on Union College on Saturday at 2 p.m. and then face Bard on Sunday at 10 a.m. The Statesmen face Skidmore on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Bard on Sunday at 10 a.m. Both games will be played at the HWS Tennis Center.

On Tuesday, Hobart tennis defeated Rochester Institute of Technology 9-0 in Liberty League play in Gordon Field House. With their fifth straight victory, the Statesmen are now 10-5 on the season and 4-1 in conference play.

Alan Dubrovsky ’20 and Jonah Salita ’19, the reigning Liberty League Doubles Team of the Week, opened the match with an 8-2 win in the top spot. Dubrovsky and Salita are now 16-6 on the season with a 10-5 record at No. 1. Jonathan Atwater ’19 and first-year Walker Anderson ’21 bested their RIT opponents 8-5 in the No. 2.  Hobart completed the sweep of doubles play with an 8-4 win at No. 3. Patrick Gray ‘19 and David Reinharz ‘19 also won for their fourth win of the season.

The William Smith tennis team defeated Hamilton 6-3 in non-conference action in Bristol Field House this week. With the win, the Herons are now 9-5 overall on the season and have concluded the non-conference portion of their schedule.

William Smith took a 3-0 lead in the match after a sweep of doubles play. Michaelann Denton ’18 and Dina Rigas ’21 defeated Hamilton opponents 8-5 in the top spot. With the win, Denton and Rigas are now 10-7 on the year with an 8-5 record in the No. 1 spot. Alex Greenberg ’19 and Katelyn Nguyen ’21 cruised to an 8-2 victory at No. 3. Kate Foley ’20 and Charlotte Engebrecht ’21 closed out doubles play with an 8-7 (7-2) win in the second spot.
