Three Hobart College tennis players received All-Liberty League honors as announced by the conference office this morning. Senior Jonathan Atwater and junior Alan Dubrovsky earned All-Liberty League first team singles honors, while sophomore Walker Anderson earned second team singles honors. Dubrovsky and Anderson also nabbed All-Liberty League first team doubles honors.
A three time All-Liberty League selection, Atwater has been named to the first team once and the second team twice. Atwater was 15-5 in singles play this season and 14-3 in the No. 2 spot. He was the only member of the team to go undefeated (7-0) in Liberty League play. Atwater defeated Skidmore’s Jack McClaren 6-1, 7-6 and RPI’s Clay Thompson 7-5, 6-3. Atwater clinched the match against Chapman University, allowing Hobart to win 7-2. He was named the Liberty League Singles Performer of the Week once this season. Atwater ended the season on an eight-match winning streak. He compiled a career record of 64-29 in singles play and 20-8 in the Liberty League during his four years as a Statesman.
A three-time All-Liberty League first team singles selection, Dubrovsky started the spring season ranked fifth in the nation in the ITA/Oracle Division III singles rankings. He was a team best 25-7 in singles play and broke the program record for most singles wins in a season after his 23rd win over Vassar’s David Gandham 6-1, 6-3. Dubrovsky was 14-5 in the No. 1 spot and 6-2 in Liberty League play. Dubrovsky was named the Liberty League Singles Performer of the Week five times. Dubrovsky claimed the singles title at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Men’s Northeast Regional Championship when he defeated Rensselaer’s Sebastian Castillo-Sanchez. Dubrovsky went on to finish fourth in the Men’s Division III Singles tournament at the ITA Cup. He is 65-19 in his career in singles matches.
Dubrovsky and Anderson started the spring season ranked eighth in the nation in the ITA/Oracle Division III doubles rankings. The pair were a team best 21-10 in doubles play this season and 14-6 in the No. 1 spot. They only dropped one conference match to Skidmore’s JT Wynne and Noah Williamson 8-6. Dubrovsky and Anderson defeated Rensselaer’s Sebastian Castillo-Sanchez and Andrew Imrie 8-6 in conference play. The pair was named the Liberty League Doubles Team of of the Week twice this season. They claimed the doubles title at the 2018 ITA Northeast Regional Championships. Dubrovsky and Anderson placed eighth at the ITA Cup.
Anderson was 12-10 in singles play this season. He was 6-1 in conference play and 9-8 in the No. 3 spot. Last year, Anderson was an All-Liberty League honorable mention in singles and doubles. He finished the season strong with a 6-3 record in his last nine matches of the season.
Hobart finished the 2018-19 season with a 13-7 overall record. The Statesmen were third in the Liberty League with a 6-2 record. Hobart defeated Union 5-1 in the first round of the conference tournament before losing to Rensselaer in the tournament semifinals.
