ItalianIn Italian at HWS, students achieve language proficiency, as well as an appreciation of Italy’s great artistic, literary and culinary traditions. Through the study of language and culture both on campus and abroad in our Rome program, we promote the study of both Italian culture in Europe and throughout the world, and particularly the influence Italian immigration has had on the shaping of Upstate New York and American culture.

“I enrolled in ITAL 101 in the fall of my first year with the goal of expanding my communication skills and enhancing my global understanding. Upon completion of the program, I can confidently say Director of Less Commonly Taught Languages Program Sebastiano Lucci and the French, Francophone, and Italian Studies Department have fostered my passion for learning languages, and I gained a deeper appreciation for the Italian culture.”
