"Day on the Hill remains an incredible opportunity for our students to experience work and life in the nation's capital while connecting with an impressive array of alumni. Students can talk with influential changemakers in Washington, all of whom share an HWS connection. This experience allows them to envision themselves in careers in D.C. while gaining insights from our accomplished alumni about successes and opportunities that HWS played in their journeys.”
-Associate Professor and Chair of Politics DeWayne Lucas

Each January, the Day on the Hill program takes students inside governmental organizations, non-profits, NGOs and other Washington, D.C. institutions for three days of experiential insight into politics, policy and more. In conjunction with the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional, and Experiential Education, faculty from the politics department select 15-20 students to participate in the yearly excursion.

Students attend talks by politicians and alumni who work on the Hill, discover what it takes to get a job in the nation's capital, and discuss the day-to-day routine of D.C. life. Students get to meet alumni and members of Congress, tour government and private facilities such as the FBI and Secret Service, and visit organizations like the Washington Post, the Peace Corps and the Ripon Society. Additionally, students have a unique opportunity to network with alumni and learn about internship and job opportunities.
