When I first came to HWS, I had an idea of what major I wanted to study from doing prior research and figuring out what would align best with my career goals. My first semester at HWS, I was lucky enough to be placed in “Introduction to Media and Society.” That class confirmed my interest in the field of Media and Society, which I declared during my second semester. From then on I continued to involve myself in the Department as much as possible.
In addition, during my summers I found internship opportunities in the media industry that allowed me to take what I learned in the classroom into my work experiences. I held three different internships during my college career. The first was a social media internship for Harvest Home Farmer’s Market where I was responsible for creating social media posts and making sure that they reached their intended audiences. The second was at AOL, now known as Oath. There, I was a research intern in the Business Development and Partnerships Department, spending much of my time conducting research on a deal that AOL was trying to land with NBC.
The following summer I was invited to be an intern at AOL again, and this time I requested to be put with the BUILD series, which is a web-based interview series. There I helped my manager conduct the daily live shows, assisted with audience management, and performed administrative duties as well.
Currently, I am freelancing as a production assistant in New York City. I've been able to lean on my mentors from my previous internship experiences to help guide me through this journey. I have also reached out to other HWS alums on numerous occasions to seek advice and to build relationships, and they've all been very helpful. I am excited to continue down this path, and to see what new opportunities I will get to explore. My aspirations for the future are to become a TV show writer and create my own TV show for a network!
