The Anderton Impact Challenge for Scholarship and Financial Aid

With a generous bequest of $1,000,000 from James F. Anderton, IV ’65, The Anderton Impact Challenge will inspire alums and friends to commit to the future of Hobart and William Smith by joining The Wheeler Society and documenting their planned gifts. This challenge seeks to raise $3,000,000 in support of scholarship and financial aid, a top priority for President Mark D. Gearan, ensuring accessible and affordable higher education for academically qualified and financially deserving students. Forward thinking by design, gift planning provides for many future generations of HWS students and those who wish to leave a lasting legacy on campus. The Anderton Impact Challenge maximizes these thoughtful gifts and honors the dedication of those committed to Hobart and William Smith.

The Challenge

Alums and friends 60 and older that document a planned gift of $100,000 or more will receive a 50% match from the Anderton Challenge.  By naming the Colleges as a beneficiary of a will or retirement plan (or a percentage thereof that is equivalent to the minimum), those that accept the Challenge will join Anderton in committing to the future of HWS and creating a lasting legacy on campus. With a gift of $100,000, donors may establish an endowed fund, therefore providing financial support for HWS students in perpetuity.

Restrictions

Documented planned gifts in support of scholarship and financial aid in the amount of $100,000 or more up to a maximum of $250,000 will be matched 50% up to a maximum of $2,000,000 in new planned gift commitments.
