HWS Photographer Kevin Colton is currently ranked ninth in the nation overall among university photographers by the University Photographers’ Association of America (UPAA). In October, Colton took third place in the Sports Action category in the Monthly Image Competition of the UPAA. The winning photo was of the Hobart soccer game (pictured here.)
This is the latest in a number of awards Colton has won in the monthly UPAA contest recently. He had two photos take first place in the Summer 2011 program. “Rainbow,” depicting a double rainbow over Seneca Lake as taken from the benches overlooking the lake, won in the Campus Environment category. In the Personal Vision category, “Antelope Canyon” shot during a summer trip to Utah, took first. In the Sports Action category, a William Smith soccer shot took fourth.
In 2010, Colton took Best of Show in November for a photo of the Bozzuto Boat House and Dock. Also last year, he was awarded first-place in the news category of the Monthly Image Competition (March), and second-place (February) in the Personal Vision category. In the Summer 2010 awards program, he was presented with both first and second place in the Personal Vision category, for “Seattle at Night” and “Alaska,” respectively, and honorable mention in the Science and Research category for “Stream Samples.”
Also last year, Colton received the Silver Award in the category of Photographer of the Year in the Council for Advancement and Support of Education 2010 Circle of Excellence Awards.
A professional photographer with more than 30 years of experience, Colton joined Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 2006.
