Hobart and William Smith will welcome Emmy award-winning sports personality Pierre McGuire 83, an NHL Inside the Glass analyst for NBC Sports, back to campus to speak with students about careers in television broadcasting.
The talk will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16 in Bristol Gymnasium. The event, which will highlight key insights into the field of sports broadcasting, is co-sponsored by The Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education and the Hobart Athletics Napier Student-Athlete Leadership Seminar.
As an Inside the Glass analyst, McGuire works alongside the NBC Sports Network broadcast team of play-by-play voice Mike Doc Emrick and analyst Eddie Olczyk.
In 2013, McGuire won a Sports Emmy for Outstanding Sports Personality- Sports Reporter for his work at NBC Sports. When McGuire is not covering NHL hockey, he is an analyst for collegiate hockey on NBCSN and has taken part in NBCs coverage of mens and womens ice hockey at the past three winter Olympics, including the 2014 Sochi Games.
Previously McGuire was the lead hockey analyst for TSN Canadas national NHL broadcasts. While he covered the NHL broadcasts, McGuire provided analysis for TSNs coverage of the IIHF World Junior Championship and the NHL Entry Draft.
Before joining NBC, the former Hobart defensemen coached hockey at the collegiate and then professional level. A former scout, coach, and executive in the NHL, McGuire helped the Pittsburgh Penguins win back-to-back Stanley Cups as an assistant coach.
