30 April 2021 • STEM Foisy '22 Interns at MathWorks
Isabelle Foisy ’22 begins a finance internship at the mathematics computing software company in May.
At MathWorks, which specializes in data analytics and simulation, economics major Isabelle Foisy ’22 is looking forward to a “comprehensive understanding of the fundamentals of finance and how it fits into business operations.”
MathWorks, which develops mathematical computing software for scientists, engineers and programmers, employs a staff of more than 5,000 worldwide and took in more than $1 billion in revue in 2019.
Working with the company’s financial team, both remotely and in-person at the Natick, Mass. headquarters, Foisy will take on projects that span the breadth of corporate finances — from accounting and taxes, to reviewing international operating results and analyzing peer companies.
“I am really looking forward to applying what I learned in class to a hands-on role in the field,” she says, adding that “the liberal arts education at HWS has taught me how to be adaptable and successful in unfamiliar environments.”
“Not only have I had incredible classes and professors in my major and minors, but classes like public speaking through the HWS Leads program, environmental studies, religious studies, and others have made me a more well-rounded and knowledgeable individual,” she says.
Through the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education, Foisy found “consistent support” and guidance from HWS graduates. “Every single alum I have reached out to has been willing to have a conversation with me, and they have all given me valuable advice and insight into the field of finance,” she says. Through the Salisbury Center, Foisy also participated in the Pillars of Wall Street program.
On campus, Foisy is a member of the Finance Society and the Budget Allocations Committee. She also participated in the Kinetic Dance Collective in 2019, worked as a technician for IT Services and interned with the DreamCatchers Foundation, Paine Lake Global and Children Across America.
