24 August 2022 Aquaro ’25 Discusses His First Year at HWS
Coming to Hobart and William Smith from Morrisville, Pa., Luke Aquaro ’25 is accustomed to the snow and ice of the Northeast. The ice at ‘The Cooler’ (HWS’ hockey facility) and the classrooms that fill the Hobart and William Smith campus, however, took some exploration and discovery.
What is the biggest difference between being a high school student and a college student?
The biggest difference between being a high school student and a college student is time management. In college, where you are maybe only taking four classes, you have a lot of extra time on your hands. Managing and dividing your time in the most productive way is the major difference.
Favorite class?
My favorite class so far was “Calculus 1” with Professor Gassert. Not only is he a great professor but his classroom environment is very welcoming. Professor Gassert makes it easy to communicate with him one-on-one as well as in the class setting.
Best part of living in a residence hall?
The best part of living in a residence hall was the opportunity to build friendships with the other students on your floor. They tend to be the first students you meet when getting to campus, so they usually become some of your closest friends.
What were you most surprised by this year?
I was most surprised with the number of opportunities for assistance in any class. I found out that there are always other students or professors available to help make sure you succeed at HWS.
What are you most proud of yourself for accomplishing this year?
I'm most proud of the way I juggled both my classroom work and playing NCAA Ice Hockey throughout the year. I had to manage my time perfectly to be able to receive good grades and perform on the ice.
