7 May 2024 Hobart Club Hockey Entering Upstate New York Collegiate Hockey League
Hobart Club Hockey President Oliver Tauscher ’25 is looking for current and incoming students ready to engage in competitive ice hockey.
Hobart and William Smith is excited to announce the return of the Hobart Men’s Club Ice Hockey Team for the 2024-25 season and beyond. Led by incoming Head Coach Jayme Hurwitz, the team will compete in the Upstate New York Collegiate Hockey League at the Division II level against teams from Elmira, Cornell II, Ithaca, Le Moyne, Hamilton and Colgate. Practicing at The Cooler, the team will compete in upwards of 16 games against both divisional rivals and challenging non-divisional opponents.
“The club team allows Hobart students to continue pursuing their passion for ice hockey at a competitive level, while building long-lasting friendships,” says Hurwitz, a certified USA Hockey coach and referee, Rochester Coalition Youth Hockey Program founder and administrator, and former commissioner of the Empire Amateur Hockey Conference. "I am excited to lead Hobart Men's Club Hockey into a new era, where we will be a valued member of a distinguished league and compete with peer institutions. Our players can pursue a passion for hockey while remaining focused on the opportunities for academic achievement offered at HWS."
Club Hockey President Oliver Tauscher ’25, from Maplewood, N.J. has played competitively for nearly 12 years. Over the past few years on campus, he says fellow students would come together and “skate a couple times throughout the week and realized that we wanted to take the next steps in building a future for Hobart Club Hockey.”
“With the new addition of Head Coach Jayme Hurwitz, we are excited to begin competing in the Upstate New York Collegiate Hockey League at the Division II level,” says Tauscher, an economics major with a minor in public policy; he is also President of the HWS Health Professions Association, works in Admissions and is a member of Kappa Alpha. “This is a wonderful opportunity for both prospective and current HWS students to continue playing competitive hockey, independent of the NCAA, in a fun and collegial environment - as well as to continue development of leadership skills and foster awareness of social responsibilities.”
