Veteran actor reprising the role he performed more than 20 years ago.
At the age of 90, Gregory Mullavey ’55 continues his remarkable acting career, starring in the Frog + Peach Theatre Company's production of the Shakespeare classic King Lear, marking a return to the role for the first time in 25 years.
Through Feb. 18, Mullavey is performing as the titular character in this tragedy, who, nearing the end of his reign, challenges his daughters to determine who will take over following his reign.
Mullavey last played the role in 1999 at Center Theatre in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Mullavey has acted in more than 100 plays from Broadway to Los Angeles. On Broadway, he starred in Romantic Comedy opposite Mia Farrow and Tony Perkins and starred in Rumors as Lenny opposite Veronica Hamel. Off Broadway, he performed in Joe DePietro's Tony winner Clever Little Lies opposite Marlo Thomas; The National Jewish Theater Foundation’s The Soap Myth as a Holocaust survivor; and in Final Follies as Grandad at The Cherry Lane Theatre. In Los Angeles, Mullavey performed as Gayev in Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard opposite Alfred Molina, as Shylock in The Road Theatre Company’s Merchant Of Venice, and as Leonato in East LA Classic Theatre’s Much Ado About Nothing. He’s also performed in Minneapolis' Guthrie Theater’s The Price opposite David Margolis and Alan Feinstein, in Anchorage, Alaska’s Light Opera Theatre’s I Do, I Do, in Calgary, Canada, in Tale Of An Allergist's Wife opposite Dawn Wells, and in Miami at The Coconut Grove as Jake in Jake's Women. Muallavey has also starred in movies and TV shows including “Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman,” “Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice,” “Gunsmoke,” “Big Valley,” “Centennial” and “iCarly.”
Mullavey earned his B.A. in philosophy. He co-captained the Statesmen baseball team and was a president of Sigma Chi. As a student, he was editor for The Herald, worked at WEOS and Saga, and was a member of Orange Key, Chimera, the Druids, Newman Club and Schola Cantorum as well as the Board of Control.
