28 February 2025 Bank of America Internship By Mary Warner '21

Last year’s Finance Trek to New York City helped land Lacey Somerville a position as a Financial Management Summer Analyst.

This summer, Lacey Somerville ’26 will intern with Bank of America as a Financial Management Summer Analyst. The highly competitive 10-week program introduces college students to financial and management accounting, corporate finance, strategic finance, and internal treasury functions. Summer Analysts take part in comprehensive training, a mentorship program, networking events, speaker series, and more.

I would like to turn this internship opportunity into a career after graduation. It is a perfect opportunity to get a glimpse into banking and the many different sectors of it. I am thrilled to have been given this opportunity and am beyond eager to begin this summer,” says Somerville, a double major in economics and political science.

Somerville attributes her preparedness for the position to the comprehensive HWS Economics curriculum. “From studying international trade to statistics to macroeconomics, I have gained a well-rounded understanding of various economic principles,” she says.

She also highlights the value of her extracurricular involvement in shaping her skills for the internship. “Working as a tutor at the Boys and Girls Club, serving as a student photographer on campus, holding chair positions in the Theta Phi Alpha Sorority and participating on its Standards Board have all helped me develop key problem-solving and communication skills that will benefit me throughout the internship.”

Throughout her internship search, Somerville utilized resources at the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education, crediting Senior Associate Director Shayne Feinberg P’17, P’20 and Associate Director Chuck Maloy ’90 as particularly helpful. “I sat down with Shayne and discussed my interests, and she provided insight into different opportunities and ways to stand out. She guided me throughout the process and helped keep me on track, while Chuck assisted me with my resume and interview preparation.

Somerville’s interest in banking peaked after attending HWS’ 2024 NYC Finance Trek, a networking experience led by Feinberg and Professor of Economics Feisal Khan. “That experience opened my eyes and truly sparked my interest in finance. Bank of America stood out to me in particular—the atmosphere and opportunities felt unmatched, and I have this trek to thank for setting me on this path,” she says. Somerville also connected with HWS alumnae at Bank of America including Christina Mitrow ’22, a treasury sales associate, and Kiersten Hamilton ’12, director of CashPro product manager, whom she met during the trek, and credits them with providing valuable guidance.

On campus, Somerville is a Fred L. Emerson Foundation scholar, has served as co-president of the Society for Women in Economics, a club supporting women in the economics major and related fields and finds empowerment in being “surrounded by women who share similar goals and experiences.” She has also participated in the Outdoor Recreation and Adventure Program, William Smith Club Volleyball and Habitat for Humanity. Somerville is also a member of the HWS Debate Team.
