1 October 2026 • Athletics HWS Day of Donors: Meet Rupert Ramsay ’27

HWS Day of Donors, a 24-hour giving challenge, kicks off Oct. 6. In this series of stories, meet six students whose pivotal HWS experiences were made possible through support from the Annual Fund. Here, Rupert Ramsay '27 reflects on his summer internship.

For Rupert Ramsay ’27, an internship in Washington, D.C. offered something that can be difficult to gain in a classroom: a chance to experience his potential future firsthand.

This summer, Ramsay was selected to participate in the Frelinghuysen Assembly Program, sponsored by former U.S. Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen ’69, L.H.D. ’01 (R-NJ), which gave him and 10 other HWS students the opportunity to live and work in Washington, D.C. With housing provided, Ramsay split his summer interning first in the office of U.S. Rep. Bill Keating (D-MA) then the U.S. International Trade Commission, gaining experience in legislative policy, government operations and data analysis.

The experience allowed him to explore the pace, possibilities and professional environment of the nation’s capital.

“It was an incredible experience,” Rupert says. “I got to experience what life in D.C. could actually look like after graduation while working and exploring the city.”

When Ramsay arrived at HWS, he says he didn’t know exactly where his academic journey would take him, but he knew two things with certainty: he wanted a rigorous environment, and the chance to continue developing his Mandarin, a language he’s been speaking since kindergarten.

Now, Ramsay is an international relations and Asian studies double major. He recently studied abroad in Taiwan, where he immersed himself in the language with 3 hours of language instruction each day.

On campus, he is a member of the Hobart swimming and diving team, serves as a Student Trustee, an International Relations teaching fellow and a Head O’Laughlin Ambassador in the Admissions Office.

Gifts to the Annual Fund, and internships specifically, give students the chance to apply what they learn in the classroom, build professional experience and discover where their education can take them. Make a gift to HWS Day of Donors here.
