4 February 2026 Hobart and William Smith Establishes Partnership with SUNY Schenectady
Agreement streamlines transfer and secures scholarships for SUNY Schenectady County Community College graduates.
Hobart and William Smith and SUNY Schenectady County Community College have announced a transfer agreement that will guarantee SUNY Schenectady graduates acceptance and scholarship support into bachelor’s degree programs at HWS.
The agreement, which was signed on Wednesday during a ceremony on the SUNY Schenectady campus by SUNY Schenectady Vice President for Academic Affairs Mark Meachem and HWS Provost and Dean of Faculty Sarah Kirk, creates a clear and accessible pathway for students to continue their education at HWS. Under the agreement, students who complete an associate degree at SUNY Schenectady with a GPA of 3.0 or higher will be guaranteed admission to HWS. Transfer students who are accepted with a GPA over 2.7 are guaranteed a scholarship of at least $30,500.
“This agreement reflects Hobart and William Smith’s deep commitment to educational access, opportunity and partnership,” says HWS President Mark D. Gearan. “By guaranteeing admission and meaningful scholarship support for SUNY Schenectady graduates, we are creating a clear, affordable pathway for talented students to pursue a bachelor’s degree. We are proud to partner with SUNY Schenectady to expand options for students and to support their continued academic success.”
“What makes this agreement particularly meaningful is its breadth and intentionality,” says SUNY Schenectady President Steady Moono. “It recognizes the academic rigor of SUNY Schenectady programs across various disciplines and affirms that our students are well prepared to thrive at a highly-respected liberal arts institution. It also reflects a shared commitment to student success by guaranteeing admission for qualified graduates and providing financial support through transfer scholarships, reducing barriers at a critical transition point in a student’s journey.”
